At Wildern school, safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children is everyone's responsibility and our main priority.

While child protection is a shared community effort, secondary schools play a uniquely critical role due to our daily, direct contact with young people. We are fully committed to providing a safe, supportive environment where all students can thrive.

In line with the statutory UK government guidance, Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSIE), safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children—defined as anyone under the age of 18—means:

  • Early Support: Providing help and support to meet the needs of children as soon as problems emerge.

  • Active Protection: Protecting children from maltreatment, whether that is within or outside the home, including online and AI-driven spaces.

  • Health and Development: Preventing impairment of children’s mental and physical health or development.

  • Safe Environments: Ensuring that children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care.

  • Positive Outcomes: Taking action to enable all children to have the best possible outcomes.

Students can report a concern or speak to someone safely using the following channels:

  • In-School Reporting: Speak directly to your Tutor, Director of Progress and Achievement, or any member of the DSL team listed below.

  • Talk2Us: Use the Talk2Us form found on the website in the Student section to send an alert directly to the pastoral team.

  • Childline: Call free on 0800 1111 or visit the Childline Website for 24/7 confidential support.

  • The role of the school

    Everyone who comes into contact with children and their families has a role to play in safeguarding children. School staff are particularly important as they are in a position to identify concerns early and provide help for children, to prevent concerns from escalating. Schools and colleges and their staff form part of the wider safeguarding system for children. This system is described in statutory guidance Keeping Children Safe in Education. Wildern works alongside Children Services, the police, health services and other organisations to promote the welfare of children and protect them from harm.

  • Safeguarding Guidance

    The statutory guidance from the Department for Education issued under Section 175 of the Education Act 2002 states that all schools and colleges must have clear and transparent safeguarding processes. Senior Teachers within our School are trained Designated Safeguarding Leads and all colleagues receive regular safeguarding training.
