Our History

In April the new secondary school was opened in Hedge End on the Shamblehurst Primary School site with Mr H. S. Shelley as the First Headmaster.

Mr Simmons became the Second Headmaster.

“New classrooms, new tennis courts, bee-hives, extra playing fields and over 500 lunches served a day….I often wonder whether parents and children realise that each of these additions does not itself make the school a better place but only gives the opportunity…the opportunity needs to be grasped with both hands.”

Mr Newman was appointed the Third Headmaster and in the Summer 1963: The school completed a move to a new school site, which is the current Wildern school location and in September was officially opened by Lord Ashburton.

The school became a comprehensive school and was renamed "Wildern Comprehensive School".

The swimming pool was opened.

Mr Keith Rockett became Fourth Headteacher. And in 1986: The first Computer Resource Centre, comprising 16 linked computer stations, was installed.

The school’s Piazza was opened.

Mr J Threlfall became Fifth Headteacher.

The D@rt Centre, housing the Performing Arts department, was opened.

A 16-classroom block was opened, completing the piazza.

The Wave was opened.

Miss Litton became Sixth Headteacher.

On 7th April The Berry Theatre opened.

Successfully became a Gold Rights Respecting School.

The school gained Artsmark Platinum.

Wildern became a Multi-Academy Trust (MAT); Miss Litton became the Executive Headteacher of the Trust, and Mrs Ceri Oakley became Associate Headteacher.

Mrs Ceri Oakley became Wildern School’s Seventh Headteacher.

The official 90th birthday celebration day took place.

Mr Steve Mann became CEO of Raise Education Trust.
